How Much?

"Price is what you pay. Value is what you get." - Warren Buffett

As a technically trained photographer, my job is not only to make YOU look your best, but also to make my printed photographs look their very best.  So in this age of "shoot & burn" sessions where photographers take photographs and then hand you a flash drive, I like to offer the services of sitting down with my clients after a session to view their images on a large screen.  We will view and compare photographs and I will ultimately hand retouch your ordered favorites to make everyone look amazing.  I also have my prints ordered through one of the nation's leading professional labs so that 10, 20, 30 years from now, your print will still look like new.

I also offer my "Back To Basics" sessions on weekdays where I offer both the session and files for one low price.  These sessions much take place Tuesday thru Thursday and are limited to one family.  Should you have an expanded family to photograph, I can make that happen for an nominal fee.  These images will be color corrected to look their best but have not been hand retouched to reduce wrinkles, get rid of fly away hairs, or any of the other creative retouching services I provide.  But, you can always order retouched prints from those files if you find a few that are "wall worthy."

Let me know if you have any questions about pricing.  I know it can be confusing but I do like offering both my premium services and basic services since no two families are alike.  You can view and download a digital copy of my pricing brochure here.http://www.asliceoflifephoto.com/familypricing.pdf

What To Wear?

"Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself." —Oscar de la Renta

I am constantly asked, "what should we wear?"  This is actually the best question to have for your upcoming session!  What you wear for your portrait session will set a tone and either put the focus on your faces or your clothing.  I only have four rules for a great wardrobe choice:
1.  Stick with solids.  Prints are busy and distract.
2.  Keep it to three colors for the entire family.  It's important that your colors tie you in with each other.
3.  Keep within one color palette.  The three basic pallettes are earth tones, jewel tones, and pastels.
I will discuss which look better with what type of session below.
4.  Black goes with everything!  Well, maybe pastels not so much, but I always love how great black looks in photos.

Some other basics to keep in mind is to dress from head to toe.  What this means is that you should remember to include accessories such as jewelry, scarves or hats to polish your look.  And please be sure to wear nice shoes.  Not "nice" as in dress shoes, but rather nice as in clean and they blend with the rest of the outfit.  I've seen clients wear beat up shoes or shoes that don't match the clothing dozens of times throughout my career thinking that I won't do any full length photographs.

Now getting back to color palettes, pastels look best at the beach.  The colors in the background at the beach include white, tan, blue and black.  Because it is a high key background (light), pastels and earth tones will blend nicely.  For park sessions, I recommend sticking with either earth tones or jewel tones.  Again, because of darker background colors, these palettes will compliment the trees and other nature backgrounds.  My #1 least favorite color?  White!  Why white, you ask?  Because white tends to wash out most complexions and more importantly, your eyes will always focus on the lightest portion of the photograph so your white shirt will compete with focus on your face.  And if you're curious what colors fall into what categories, here's a quick list:

Earth Tones:  Brown, tan, hunter green, burgandy, navy blue, pumpkin, dark gold, etc.
Jewel Tones:  Ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue, amethyst purple, etc.
Pastels:  pastel pink, pastel blue, mint, aqua, lavender, etc.

Still not sure what to wear?  Feel free to call me and I can most definitely help!

Because I am located in Escondido, I work primarily in my town.  I've found my "go to" spots such a Kit Carson Park, Grape Day Park and Lake Hodges, but also like making a detour to such awesome spots as Old Poway Park in Poway and Warmwater Beach in Carlsbad.  Keep in mind that my lowest session price is for local sessions but I am happy to meet your family down in San Diego or at the beach for a nominal fee for travel time.  And the reason for a larger fee for beach sessions is because I can only do one session since the best light is the last 30 minutes of the day, plus the salt air and sand are really hard on my equipment.

I am happy to work with you on the perfect spot.  Many families have also booked me to do their session at their house.  I love this idea and many times it works just great.  You will need to have a large enough property so I can use my telephoto lens and of course nice open shaded areas to pose your family under.  These shaded areas will guarantee beautiful skin tones without any hot spots.  But just like at the beach, when the sun starts going down, most all areas will be in perfect light!

I also offer holiday sessions starting in October.  These sessions will take place at certain sites and depending upon the type of special, your session will last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.  This is a great time to do family portraits since I can charge a smaller fee since I will be taking 3 or more families in one day.  Make sure to check my blog or Facebook portrait page to see when I will offer my next special.

I also occasionally offer children's portrait specials.  Again, check back occasionally or better yet, make sure to "Like" my FB Portrait page at https://www.facebook.com/asliceoflifeportraits and under "Following" click on "See First" in your Newsfeed and "All Posts" under Notifications. This way you will have a better chance of seeing my posts when I announce my specials.
